The winners of the last two Euro
tournaments will be confident of winning this group. Spain might not be the
force they once were due to retirements (Xavi, Villa, Puyol) and losses of form
(Torres, Torres, Torres), but given the form of Spanish teams in European club
competition, it would be foolish to do anything other than tip them to win this
group, so that’s what I’m doing.
The Czech Republic always seem to do OK in a tournament but their squad isn't the strongest – and it’s 20 years since they made the final at Wembley. I’m
predicting them to prop up the group. Turkey are hard to predict. Will they put on a show with all the trimmings or be one of the tournament's turkeys? I think they'll fancy their chances of two wins in this group against the eastern European sides, and they'll finish ahead of
Croatia – just – with both doing enough to qualify for the knockout phase.
GROUP D PREDICTION: 1: SPAIN
2: TURKEY 3: CROATIA 4: Czech Republic
