On a winter’s evening in Paris, the only
shock was the weather. Looked like foggy November London, not mid-summer in the
French capital. But it didn’t take long for the home fans to warm up,
celebrating the first of a handful of goals.
Take nothing away from Iceland, they
deserved their place in the quarter finals. But a better organized/confident/talented
England should have seen them off. But I’m pretty sure the French would have
given England a thrashing too.
Giroud weighed in with a double, Pogba
broke his international duck, Payet scored from outside the box, and Griezmann
a deft flick over the ‘keeper. Beautiful stuff. Less so for the French at the
other end, where their suspect defence leaked like the clouds above Paris.
Expect the Germans to be planning to exploit that as you read this.
