They Finished 8th: POLAND

They kept it tight at the back. Lewandowski mis-fired up front, and in the end it was a penalty miss that sent them home.

Poland will still see this tournament as a success. They finished joint top of their group with the Germans, equaling the world champions’ points haul of 7 – two wins and a draw. More than respectable.

It was the first time they made it out of the Group Stage in the Euros. Groundbreaking.

And it's the furthest they’ve been in an international tournament since the 1982 World Cup. Good stuff.

You can’t help thinking that Portugal were there for the taking, and they should have finished off the game before it got taken to penalties. Nuff said.
