Euro 2016: Germany 2-0 Ukraine

No great surprise in the result, but it could have been so different.

Ukraine were on fire for the last 20 of the first half. They looked like they could score on every attack. The Germans almost looked rattled. Then the English referee blew the half-time whistle. The equivalent of the end of round bell saving a punch drunk world champion boxer.

All Ukrainian momentum was lost. The second half was a little one-sided, and Schweinsteiger came on to convert Ozil's cross following a breakaway.

Plenty of other incident, including a powerful header to put the Germans ahead in the first half, great saves from Neuer and a referee who was content to keep his cards in his pocket.

The Germans lack a quality striker though, which is why I have not tipped them to win this thing. But Kroos control of midfield was something to behold...
